Kate Erskine, an Engineering Science at St Hilda’s College, Oxford., joined us as a Summer intern, to learn about the world of FinTech whilst providing us with fresh insights too! As her internship draws to a close, she shares her experience with us.
What’s it been like joining IDR as a summer Intern?
Being a summer intern at IDR has been fantastic. It’s been great to meet so many members of the team; everyone’s been so welcoming. It’s also been great to get to visit Guernsey (though I wouldn’t have minded going to Mauritius or South Africa!).
What sort of projects have you been involved with?
I’ve been able to help with many different and interesting projects in IDR such as updating the branding with marketing and assembling profile packs with the managed services team. Though I enjoyed working with the knowledge base refit the most. It gave me a brilliant opportunity to meet people within the team and to get a better grasp of the functioning and the workings of IDR.
What’s been your main learning?
Before working at IDR, my grasp of private equity and fintech in general was limited. I’m glad I can say that that is no longer the case.
What have you enjoyed the most?
I’ve really appreciated the time I’ve spent with the #IDRTeam, I have learned a lot and now have a much better idea of what I want to do within my professional career.
What are you studying at University?
I study engineering science at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. I’m going into my 4th and final year this October where hopefully I’ll compete my masters.
Outside of work, what have you enjoyed during your time here in Guernsey?
Guernsey has been a great experience and really interesting to explore. I’ve been to a couple of the islands near Guernsey including Sark, which if you haven’t been to you really should (looking at you Rene!). Guernsey is also blessed with some incredible beaches like Cobo where the team and I went kayaking.
