How GPs are harnessing data and technology – Panel insights on operational excellence in private markets

Tue, 11 Nov, 2025

Discussions around efficiency often go hand in hand with technology — but it takes more than simply adding new tools to achieve operational excellence. As private markets continue to expand, welcoming new investors and navigating increasingly complex data demands, the ability to harness technology effectively across the fund lifecycle has never been more important.

That was the focus of a timely discussion at the LPGP Connect Private Markets Forum in Los Angeles, where Kevin Skorzewski, Sonata One’s Senior Commercial Development Director, moderated a panel featuring:

  •  Kerry Omughelli, COO – Lightbay Capital
  •  Paul E. Giorgio, COO – Eldridge Acre Partners
  •  Alex Wu, Ph.D., Managing Partner – Coromandel Capital LLC

Together, they shared practical insights on how private markets firms are turning data and technology into levers for smarter, faster, and more resilient operations.

Fundraising and investor relations

The panel explored how a strong data infrastructure can transform both fundraising and investor relations — simplifying co-investment workflows and subscription documentation and investor KYC while unlocking efficiency, transparency, and trust throughout the capital-raising process. This is something that we champion at Sonata One – through authenticating investors once and enabling them to leverage a globally compliant investment passport across the fund lifecycle.

Transparency, risk, and resilience

Transparency and risk management took centre stage as panellists discussed how GPs are using technology to enhance real-time reporting, portfolio monitoring, and overall operational resilience. The conversation also turned to cybersecurity — highlighting the need for robust systems to protect investors and mitigate risk in an increasingly digital environment.

Smarter investment decisions

There was broad agreement that data and analytics are reshaping how investment decisions are made. With access to increasingly granular information, technology is taking the heavy lifting out of data analysis — helping GPs shift from reactive to proactive decision-making. From collateral analysis at the asset or facility level for credit funds to the intelligent application of automation and AI for private investments, the tools are there to make decisions faster and with greater precision.

AI in action

A key highlight of the panel was how firms are approaching AI responsibly — establishing internal committees, developing governance frameworks, and building organization-wide capabilities to drive measurable outcomes. AI, they agreed, isn’t just about efficiency; it’s reshaping how private markets organizations think, learn, and grow.

Deploying technology – with purpose

Operational excellence is no longer about incremental gains — it’s about transforming how private markets operate from end to end. Success requires deploying technology with purpose, grounded in a deep understanding of the problems it’s solving, and guided by people who really understand the industry

Thanks to LPGP Connect for providing a platform for such a timely and forward-looking conversation.
