Jacques Viljoen joined IDR as an intern in the DevOps team to learn about the world of FinTech whilst providing us with fresh insights too. Here are some of his key takeouts and highlights.
What’s it been like joining IDR as a summer Intern?
Joining IDR as an intern in the DevOps team has been an incredible experience that has shaped my perspective on both software development and how the private markets operate. Over the course of my internship, I’ve been involved in a variety of projects, learned invaluable skills and enjoyed IDR’s dynamic and supportive atmosphere.
What sort of projects have you been involved with?
I’ve had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects. These included tackling bugs, creating client-facing reports, enhancing the application functionality, and working with SQL databases. Each project provided unique challenges and learning opportunities, allowing me to gain a well-rounded experience in software development and DevOps practices.
What’s been your main learning?
While working on these projects, my primary focus was not only on technical skills but also on understanding how the business operates. This aspect has been the most crucial part of my learning journey. I gained insights into how IDR supports its private markets clients and how DevOps play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality software solutions. Understanding the entire lifecycle of development, from ideation to deployment, and ensuring it aligns with IDR’s goals and deadlines has been immensely valuable.
What have you enjoyed the most?
What I’ve enjoyed the most during my internship is the constant learning and adaptation. IDR has a fast-paced environment, and the DevOps team’s rapid response to questions and issues ensured that I was always supported in my tasks. The dynamic nature of the work kept me engaged and excited to come to work each day.
