Connor Jordan, has recently traded winter in Guernsey for a fresh opportunity in sunny Mauritius. But it’s no holiday as he’s taking on the role of Head of IDR Mauritius. He shares his IDR career journey with us.

Where did it all start?

I joined IDR in 2016 as an analyst and worked in several different roles across the business. I was promoted to Ongoing Monitoring Team Lead and then Head of Fund closing before taking on this new challenge of leading IDR Mauritius.

It’s been an exciting journey with IDR. Having jumped into a career straight from school, I felt it was important to join a company where I could continue to explore different career paths. At IDR I’ve had an abundance of opportunities to gain experience across different parts of the business, which has been given me a good understanding of the private markets and the problems we’re solving for fund managers and investors. I’ve enjoyed being able to work closely with some of the world’s leading fund managers and take on management responsibilities early on in my career.

So how did the Mauritius opportunity come about?

IDR set up an office in Mauritius last year to grow our client service capabilities and provide early time zone support to our global client base. Given the breadth of my experience delivering services to our clients I became closely involved both in recruiting and training the team there.

Whilst this was initially remotely there’s nothing like doing things face to face, so I jumped at the chance to spend some on the ground there last year.  The opportunity to relocate to Mauritius and head up the local business was a natural progression from this, and I’m excited about building IDR’s team and capability there.

As one #IDRTeam, client service and building better solutions is very much a team effort. A key part of my role will be to nurture this collaborative approach in our Mauritian operation.

What type of professional development have you done since?

As a business we help fund managers raise funds from their investors more quickly with a tech-based solution combined with human support.  The ability to manage multiple workflows, bring people together and deliver on deadline is important so I chose to undertake Prince II project management qualifications. Being able to apply these to my work and bring my work into my studies has been hugely beneficial.
